About Us

The South African Musculoskeletal Imaging Group is a subspeciality division of the Radiological Society of South Africa formed with the following aims:

  • To promote interaction between clinicians involved in musculoskeletal imaging , enabling sharing of ideas and experience and thus growth of the subspeciality .
  • To hold congresses , road shows and to provide speakers for meetings of related specialities.
  • To highlight the strengths and capabilities of musculoskeletal imaging to clinicians.
  • It is anticipated that the majority of members will belong to the radiological society but membership is open to all clinicians with an interest in imaging.

    The founding meeting of the group was held on 1st Oct 2005 in JHB. The committee was elected as follows:

    Vice Chairman: Dr Mark Velleman
    Secretary: Dr Graeme Thompson
    Members without portfolio: Dr Louis Sulman
    Dr Petrie De Villiers
    ICR 2006 Representative: Dr Andrew Van Den Heever

    The group will hold yearly meetings to run concurrently with the South African Sports Medicine Association Congress where possible.
